Serving Dishes in Highly Figured Queensland Maple
HERE are some images of functional serving dishes created from Queensland Maple.
The wood for these dishes came from a small slab of maple which I originally bought to use as a side-table top. It was very highly fiddlebacked - in fact, this small piece of wood contained some of the most extreme maple fiddleback that I had seen.
I needed to create some small bowl forms to add to my local stock and it was unlikely that I would get to make any furniture any time soon. So, I relegated this maple to 4 serving dishes.
I set out the forms so that the two larger pieces got most of the figuring.
